"I am committed to fighting for quality public healthcare, affordable medication, housing, better transportation and infrastructure.”
Healthcare:
I believe that healthcare is a human right and everyone deserves access to quality and affordable care. As a type 1 diabetic, I know first-hand the struggles to obtain life-saving medicine just to survive. When I was first diagnosed, I found myself having to work full-time while trying to complete my education just to pay for insulin and quality care. I remember still falling short, racking up large sums of debt due to hospital emergency visits, and struggling to pay off my medical debt.
I am one of the lucky ones. Some Americans have to ration their insulin or other life saving drugs simply because our healthcare system has put profit over the interest of the people. No one should have to choose between food or healthcare, nor should they have to go into debt to stay healthy. Our healthcare infrastructure also fails our children. In Ohio, black infants are 2.5 times more likely to die than white infants. Our system is lagging far behind other developed nations. Our citizens deserve better and I am committed to fight for quality public healthcare and affordable medication. I support
Education:
Everyone deserves access to quality education regardless of where they live. Every child should have a school that provides the resources they need to be able to grow and succeed, and thrive.
Teachers should also be paid fairly for the work they do. Our teachers are asked to educate, mentor, counsel and do so much more but get paid barely enough to sustain themselves. I support:
Small businesses and Workers rights:
Small businesses are the backbone of America, leading the way in innovation and contributing to the local economy. I watched my father work tirelessly to keep his restaurant afloat. He received little financial support from the city and state. We need to do more for our small business owners to make sure they have the tools they need to succeed in this post-pandemic economy. I support:
Climate change :
Climate change poses to be one of the gravest challenges facing the modern world. From extreme weather to climate refugees to rising sea levels, we will be forced to grapple with the consequences of our own failed actions.
By supporting climate-centric policies, this does not mean I am an advocate for cutting jobs or abandoning our blue-collar workers. Instead, I want to invest in cleaner and renewable energy to boost our economy and decrease our dependence on oil.
I believe we need to meet the moment and we need to take direct environmental action so we can have a fighting chance for our future. That is why I support:
• The Green New Deal
• Changing all COTA buses to renewable energy sources
• Investing in the wind and solar industry
• Offering grants/loans for vulnerable communities to invest in renewable energy
• Repealing House Bill 6
• Invest in urban reforestation projects to offset the heat island effect
• Host job expos and training for blue-collar workers
“
Affordable Housing:
Ohio's minimum wage is currently $9.30, while the average rent price for a one bedroom apartment is currently $1,266. A minimum-wage worker in Ohio will need to work multiple jobs just to pay for living expenses, food, transportation, and more. Ohioans continue to suffer due to rising rental and housing costs, specifically low-income residents and senior citizens. Communities of color are also disproportionately affected by the failures in our housing market. We need to do more to prevent displacement, gentrification and homelessness in our community.
I support:
Transportation & Infrastructure:
Columbus is one of the fastest growing cities in America but still does not have reliable transportation. With fuel prices on the climb, public transit is becoming the the only affordable option for many Ohioans. We need to make sure we invest more in our transit system so people can go about their lives safely and without disruption. I support:
